Agro Risk Wins the EU Big Data from Space Award 2025

AgroRisk has been awarded first prize at the EU Big Data from Space (BiDS) Award 2025, recognising its innovative use of satellite data and analytics to provide actionable insights into climate and agricultural risk. The award, organised by the European Space Agency’s Φ-lab, celebrates leading European startups transforming space technology and data into real-world impact.

Turning Space Data Into Climate Intelligence

The BiDS Award aims to highlight the most promising European space-based innovations that transform raw data into knowledge, insight, and foresight. It provides visibility and networking opportunities for startups and research teams using space technologies to address global challenges — from food security and environmental sustainability to renewable energy and infrastructure monitoring.

AgroRisk took home the top prize for its climate fintech platform that quantifies agricultural and financial risks driven by climate change and extreme weather. By combining Earth observation data, weather models, and financial risk analytics, the platform enables banks, insurers, and farmers to assess the climate exposure of agricultural assets at both field and portfolio level.

The AgroRisk solution translates complex satellite and climate data into decision-ready financial insights, supporting compliance with sustainability regulations and enabling better adaptation strategies for the agricultural sector.

Space Technology for Planetary Resilience

AgroRisk’s work sits at the intersection of space innovation, sustainable finance, and climate adaptation. By leveraging Earth observation data, the platform helps financial institutions align with emerging sustainability disclosure requirements while promoting risk-informed investment in agriculture and land management.

“Space data is transforming how we understand and manage climate risks on Earth. At AgroRisk, we use satellite-based insights to translate what happens in orbit into tangible value on the ground — helping banks, insurers, and farmers make smarter, more sustainable decisions,” said Theodor Christensen, CEO and Founder of AgroRisk. “The BiDS Award highlights how space innovation can directly contribute to planetary resilience and sustainable finance.”

Celebrating European Innovation in Space Data

The BiDS Award was presented on 2 October 2025 during the Big Data from Space Conference (BiDS), which brought together leaders from industry, research, and policy to explore how deep-tech solutions and satellite data can address critical global issues.

The recognition underscores AgroRisk’s leadership in using Earth observation data for financial resilience and sustainability — bridging the gap between space technology and on-the-ground climate action.
